2025 9/9-9/14 Shalom Roamers Myrtle Beach Previous Rally

This late summer Rally was hosted by Sharon and Eric Pritzker, Susan and Rick Snyder and Jeanie and Bob Lewis at Lakewood Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach.

Please take a moment and thank them in the comments below.

Enjoying Dinner

The first dinner, Tuesday evening is always the most anticipated. This evening we started with an impromptu pot luck supper including a lovely shrimp dish, fresh grilled salmon, rig-made bread and many salads and fruit dishes. We gathered tables at the Pritzker’s rig and ate for hours.

Stu tried a brief test flight of his drone, Homer. Flew nicely until . . .

Rick Snyder captured the unforgettable moment of Marcy’s good humor.

Wednesday, we had grilled franks, fresh beans, lots of salads, and the best part, introductions while the food cooled. Meeting new people and hearing old stories is part of the Shalom Roamers tradition.

Jeff, Paula Deen and Carol

Wednesday evening we went to Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen, a “typical” family style meal that claimed to acquaint us with the way Southern families ate years ago:  Undercooked muffins, cold ribs, over-sweet potato salad, fried chicken and catfish. It was fun to visit with close friends as the place was actually fairly quiet for a large restaurant.

Thursday the group went to the Chesapeake House for enjoyable seafood dinners. The “bread” basket contained a number of truly excellent hush puppies and some lovely rolls. They were more than sufficient for Stu’s entire meal, but he and everyone in the group ordered dinners with the “flavor” of Chesapeake cooking.

Out the window was a pond with a few remaining ducks and a hungry alligator.

This is a good time to remind you that clicking on any image shows you a full size version so you can see the little, tiny people clearly.

After dinner, the group went to the Alabama Theatre where we enjoyed a performance of Iconic, their professional performing group. High activity, excellent dancing and a captivating solo performer who performed magic, juggling, and some interesting audience participation.

Friday Night

We look for a temple in our area to visit for Friday evening services. Temple Shalom Myrtle Beach hosted our group of 16 for a congregational dinner and services at the temple. We sincerely thank the temple congregation, the Rabbi and Cantor for the fellowship.

Saturday Night

Joan feeling the warmth of the Havdalah candle

Shalom Roamers celebrated the final event of the rally exactly as Jews have celebrated the end of the Shabbat celebration with the symbolic extinguishing of the sabbath light in a lovely Havdalah service led by our President, Bob Lewis. During the short service, the assembled group shared the joyous memories of the sabbath by passing around a piece of bread, spices, and finally each feeling the warmth of the Havdalah candle.

This is the Jewish month of Elul, a time when we prepare for the coming Days of Awe, the holiest days of the Jewish calendar. During this holy time, the Jewish people assembled in prayer sound a Shofar to remind them of the many generations who ended their celebrations with the promise of more to come. Bob Lewis sounded the Shofar as the symbolic close of both the Havdalah service and the 2025 Shalom Roamers Myrtle Beach Rally.

Bob Lewis sounds Shofar signaling the end of the Havdalah service and the Rally.

Thank you Bob and thank you Shalom Roamers for the fun, the companionship, the memories and the promise of many more signified by the Shofar.

With a special thank you to Rick Snyder for many of the images on this page!

In a lovely postscript, we received a Thank You note from the Lakewood Camping Resort:
